Saratoga Hospital Adds Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician

Dr. James Kelley meets the needs of athletes and active patients

Dr. James KelleySARATOGA SPRINGS, NY, October 3, 2018—James Kelley, MD has joined Saratoga Hospital Medical Group Primary Care – Sports Medicine, a new practice that focuses on meeting the needs of active patients and recreational and high-level athletes.

Offices are located adjacent to Saratoga Regional YMCA, in the newest building at Saratoga Medical Park in Malta. Saratoga Hospital and the Y built the facility together and share space there.

As a primary care sports medicine physician, Dr. Kelley emphasizes the importance of exercise in promoting a healthy lifestyle. He has specialized training in musculoskeletal ultrasound, exercise physiology, biomechanics, nutrition, physical education and other areas to help patients stay healthy and fit and prevent injuries and illness.

“This new practice meets a growing need in our community and helps patients lay the foundation for long-term good health,” said Dr. Richard Falivena, vice president and chief medical and physician integration officer at Saratoga Hospital. “It’s exactly the type of service we envisioned when we partnered with the Y on this building.”

Dr. Kelley has strong ties to the hospital and the Saratoga region. Before pursuing a medical degree, he worked as a nursing assistant at the Orthopedic Center at Saratoga Hospital and as an assistant rowing coach at Skidmore College. He was also a volunteer for the Saratoga Mentoring Program.

A graduate of Albany Medical College, Dr. Kelley completed a residency in family and community medicine at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and a fellowship in sports medicine at WellSpan York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania. He also has a law degree from Pace University Law School in White Plains, New York.
