Saratoga Hospital Earns “A” Grade for Patient Safety in Fall 2016 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY, December 5, 2016—Saratoga Hospital has once again earned an A for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, ranking among the safest hospitals in the U.S.

A national patient safety watchdog, the group recently released its Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, which assign A, B, C, D and F letter grades to hospitals nationwide and provide the most complete picture of patient safety in the U.S.

For fall 2016, Saratoga Hospital was one of 844 hospitals nationwide—and just 15 in New York state—to receive the highest ranking of A. Saratoga Hospital also earned an A for the spring 2016 period.

“These excellent results reflect how we have embraced the most current evidenced-based practice guidelines and an organization-wide commitment to patient safety,” said Mary Jo Laposta, Saratoga Hospital senior vice president of patient care and organizational excellence and chief nursing officer. “Credit for these high rankings belongs to our staff, who dedicate themselves to providing the best possible care for every patient, every day.”

The hospital recently completed a $34 million expansion and renovation including a state-of-the-art intensive care unit and world-class Surgical Pavilion. Both incorporate the most advanced infection control equipment, supported by comprehensive reporting and other best practices.

“Protecting patients from harm is the most important charge for any hospital,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We recognize and appreciate A hospitals’ vigilance and continued dedication to keeping their patients safe.”

Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts and is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
