Dr. Joseph Bell Named VP of Perioperative Services at Saratoga Hospital

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY, October 31, 2019—Saratoga Hospital surgeon Dr. Joseph Bell has been named vice president and medical director of perioperative services—the care provided immediately before, during and after surgery.

The new position was created in response to significant growth in the number and complexity of surgeries and other interventional procedures performed at Saratoga Hospital.

“Advances in technology have transformed the way we perform surgery and the level of care we now provide to patients,” Saratoga Hospital President and CEO Angelo Calbone said. “Those same advances require an extraordinary level of coordination and collaboration.

“Dr. Bell is the perfect choice to lead this effort,” Calbone said. “He has extensive experience and, equally important, is trusted and respected throughout the hospital and among those we serve.”

A highly skilled surgeon, Bell has more than 25 years of experience. He has spent most of his career at Saratoga Hospital, where he has built a reputation for his expertise, bedside manner, leadership and commitment to the hospital and the community.

Bell has served as chair of the hospital’s multispecialty physician practice, Saratoga Hospital Medical Group, since its founding. He also serves on the hospital’s Breast Care Collaborative and helped spearhead the hospital’s annual Breast Health Symposium. In recognition of his dedication to cancer patients, Bell has been honored by ToLife! with the Community Advocate Award and the award for Leading Surgeon for Breast Cancer Patients.

A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Bell earned his medical degree from New York Medical College and completed an internship and residency at Mary Imogene Bassett (now Bassett Medical Center). He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.
