Dr. Shahid Mushtaq Khan, interventional cardiologist, joins Saratoga Hospital

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y., November 8, 2022—Shahid Mushtaq Khan, MD, has joined Saratoga Hospital Medical Group – Cardiology. An interventional cardiologist, Dr. Khan specializes in using minimally invasive procedures, such as cardiac catheterization, to diagnose and treat heart conditions.

Dr. Khan has considerable clinical and research experience, including cardiovascular appointments at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, JFK University Medical Center at Hackensack Meridian Health, and Raritan Bay and Old Bridge Medical Centers at Hackensack Meridian Health, all in New Jersey.

The Hospital launched its 24/7 emergency interventional cardiology program in 2017 with support from Albany Medical Center, Saratoga Hospital’s partner in the Albany Med Health System. Since then, the Saratoga Hospital cardiology program has consistently earned the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline quality achievement award—including Mission: Lifeline® - STEMI Receiving Center - Gold Plus recognition in 2022. STEMI stands for “ST elevation myocardial infarction,” an especially severe and dangerous type of heart attack.

Dr. Khan earned his medical degree from Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan, and completed residencies in nuclear medicine at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and in internal medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. He went on to complete fellowships in interventional cardiology and cardiovascular disease at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and, most recently, a fellowship in structural heart disease at Albany Medical College. 

In addition, Dr. Khan completed research fellowships at Temple University Hospital and Hahnemann University Hospital, both in Pennsylvania, and at the University of Chicago. 

He is board certified in multiple specialties, including internal medicine with subspecialty certifications in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology; echocardiography; and nuclear cardiology. Dr. Khan also is a registered physician in vascular interpretation and a fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI), and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (FASNC).
