Saratoga Hospital Named

One of Health Care’s “Most Wired”

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY, July 8, 2016—Saratoga Hospital has been named one of the nation’s “Most Wired” healthcare providers, based on an annual Hospital & Health Networks magazine survey that measures how hospitals and health systems use technology to improve operations and patient care.

Only 24 New York hospitals—including three in the Greater Capital Region—made the list. More than 2,100 hospitals nationwide participated in the survey. Of those, 341 earned the “Most Wired” designation.

Survey results were released this week by the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Health Forum. Hospital & Health Networks is an AHA publication.

“This Most Wired designation is the result of significant, ongoing investments in technologies that advance patient care, improve the patient experience, and protect the privacy of patient information,” said John Mangona, vice president and chief information and compliance officer for Saratoga Hospital. “It also reflects the expertise and commitment of an IT team that consistently finds new ways to deploy technology to benefit our community.”

Most Wired hospitals must demonstrate leadership in four key areas:

  • Clinical quality and patient safety
  • Clinical integration
  • Information technology (IT) infrastructure and security
  • Business and administrative management

As an example of clinical integration, Mangona cited Saratoga Hospital’s participation in the health information exchange, Hixny, which gives doctors immediate, secure, electronic access to patient information in an emergency. That, in turn, reduces the risk of medical mistakes and drug interactions. It also helps avoid the inconvenience and additional cost of duplicate testing.

“Information technology will continue to transform the way we deliver healthcare at Saratoga Hospital and across the U.S.,” Mangona said. “It will link us to information that will guide treatment, enhance safety, and improve the health and well-being of individual patients and our community as a whole.”
