Program helps meet the community’s public safety needs

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY, March 27, 2017—Saratoga Hospital now offers security guard training to help aspiring, new and existing guards fulfill New York state requirements for security professionals.

The hospital’s training program is approved by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services and includes all three state-mandated security guard courses:

  • An eight-hour pre-assignment training course, which is the first step in obtaining a New York state security guard license.
  • A 16-hour on-the-job training course, which must be completed within 90 days of employment as a security guard.
  • An eight-hour annual in-service training course, which ensures that security guards have the latest information on security-related issues and advances.

“We’ve been providing this training to our own public safety officers for years and decided that security guards outside our organization should also be able to tap our expertise,” said Taylor Herrick, Saratoga Hospital public safety coordinator and a program instructor. “The hospital exists to serve our community, and this is one more way that we can do that.”

In addition to Herrick, instructors include David Nelson, Saratoga Hospital public safety shift leader and Dave Trottier, public safety officer.

“Security is playing an increasingly important role in organizations throughout the region,” said John DiNovo, Saratoga Hospital director of public safety. “Our training programs help meet a critical need for these organizations and ensure that we’re all on the same page. That’s an added benefit—for the organizations involved and our community.”

DiNovo, Herrick, Nelson and Trottier are all certified by the DCJS and have extensive security experience in a variety of environments.
