A comprehensive psychiatric evaluation begins with a conversation with the patient, and ultimately will help form the correct diagnosis and treatment plan that will best help the patient. Our attending psychiatrist will consider presenting issues and symptoms, patient and family medical history, relationships with family and friends, and if needed, request lab or imaging work. The evaluation may include a psychosocial assessment that measures the patient’s perception of self and ability to function within the community, generally looking at a patient’s mental and social well-being.
Patients will meet with members of the treatment team, who are happy to answer questions and put the patient and family members at ease. We recognize the importance of engaging patients in their own care, and helping them and their families understand their condition and how to best support each other moving forward.
The patient will receive a medical examination to determine overall physical health and current medications. The patient’s team will review and manage treatment and medications as necessary.
Creative expression plays a valuable role in the healing process, and we offer several outlets, such as creative writing, journaling, therapeutic arts and crafts, exercise equipment, and relaxation techniques such as yoga.
A combination of individual and group therapy provides patients a balance between time spent learning coping skills and receiving treatment specific to their needs in individual sessions, and time spent learning coping skills and modeling behavior from other patients who are experiencing similar circumstances.
Our team of professionals will follow each patient’s case, noting what is working, where there are setbacks, and finding solutions to any impediments to care, finding the best path to aid in recovery. This can include outreach to community-based services and the patient’s support network, as warranted.
