Saratoga Hospital Medical Group - Geriatric Care is dedicated to helping older patients receive the quality of care needed to preserve independence and quality of life.
Geriatric medicine focuses on the unique healthcare concerns of older patients, helping them maintain independence and be well for as long as possible. Since many patient concerns are chronic and overlapping, geriatricians work with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care. This multi-disciplinary approach treats the whole person and helps patients and families understand their diagnoses and make informed decisions regarding treatment options. Our geriatrician will also discuss advanced directives with patients and families, answering questions and helping them understand the medical aspects of these important decisions including selecting a healthcare proxy, discussing how they would want their end of life care oriented when the time comes. Working according to the patient’s wishes, our geriatric physician structures patient care to promote the best possible quality of life through the last stages of life, including preparing families and loved ones and being with them every step of the way.
Our geriatrician, Dr. Mallory Otto, is experienced in working with patients who have many of the conditions common among an older population, such as recurrent falls, trouble with memory or cognitive decline, and navigating the special attention needed for patients with increased frailty. Dr. Otto understand concerns about loss of mobility, sensitivity to illness, and side effects from medications, and is dedicated to helping patients maintain function and independence for as long as possible.
